Best Business Systems has a new feature that will hopefully make everyone's life a little easier. We have set up an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server to make moving large files across the internet less of a chore. This service is in the beta testing period right now, but there's no reason not to try it.
As file sizes approach 10 MB, emailing them as attachments can be tricky. Many web-based solutions suffer from time out, and may leave you in doubt as to whether the file did or did not arrive. FTP is a time proven technique for moving large files across the internet.
You do need a user name and password to access the server. You can obtain one from your account representative, or by filling in the form below. Logging in will take you to your own assigned folder. You will not be able to delete files, but you can upload and download. I have tested the FTP server with files up to 180 MB with no problems. If you do encounter problems, please report them to james@bestbusinesssystems.com.
The simplest way of accessing the FTP server, if you are using Internet Explorer, is to click here: bbs.pcgurusbg.com:65000. Your browser will ask you for a username and password. Then you should see the files (or the empty folder of your account) that is similar to a Windows Explorer window. IE 7 will print this above the files: To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. This refers to the tool options toward the right hand side of the page. IE 6 seems to take care of this by itself, changing your browser window to a file folder window. Firefox does not behave in this way; you can see a list of files to download, but you cannot upload a file through the Firefox window.
A better way to use FTP is through the use of an FTP client. They require a little more technical know-how, but they seem to work better overall. They key is the address is ftp://bbs.pcgurusbg.com with a port id of 65000. You can find any number of FTP clients here, some of which are free to use on a trial basis, and others that are totally free.
Just fill in the form below to request a user name and password. Note that for security reasons, this process is not automated. That means if you do this in the middle of the night, you won't get a response until the following morning.
